What information does the extension handle?

Transcript Snag reads transcript text, timestamps, available caption languages, and the current YouTube video's title and URL. It uses this information to show the transcript, switch caption tracks, jump to moments in the video, and prepare copies or downloads. Markdown exports include the video's title and source link.

The extension detects changes to the current YouTube page's URL so it can update when you move between videos. It does not read your browser's history database or build a record of your browsing activity. We do not receive the captions, video titles or URLs processed by the extension.

What happens when I use the extension?

• The extension reads caption information from the YouTube player and transcript text from the page. It may open YouTube's transcript controls or switch the selected caption language.
• The transcript is processed in your browser and displayed in a panel beside the video.
• Copying writes the transcript to your clipboard. Downloading creates a .txt or .md file locally on your device.
• Clicking a timestamp changes the video's playback position.

Network requests and third-party services

The extension has no backend, analytics, advertising, crash-reporting or AI service. It does not upload transcripts or video information to us or an external processing service.

Opening or switching captions can cause the YouTube page itself to load information from YouTube. Your use of YouTube remains subject to Google's Privacy Policy. Transcript Snag does not control YouTube's data handling.

Storage and your controls

The extension holds transcript information in page memory while it runs. It does not persist transcripts or preferences in cookies, localStorage, sessionStorage, IndexedDB or Chrome extension storage. Reloading or closing the page clears that page's extension state.

Files you download remain wherever you save them until you delete them. Copied text is managed by your operating system's clipboard and any clipboard history or sync features you have enabled. You control where you paste or share it.

Access and permissions

The extension's website access is limited to youtube.com and its subdomains. Its scripting permission lets it run bundled code to read caption information and display the transcript panel. It does not request access to other websites or the browser's history database.

How we use extension data

Transcript Snag uses the information it accesses only to provide its transcript features. We do not sell extension data or use it for advertising, unrelated purposes, creditworthiness or lending decisions. We do not receive or retain copies of your transcripts.

Transcript Snag's use of information adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

This website's analytics

This marketing website, including this privacy page, uses Google Analytics to measure visits and understand how visitors use the site. Google receives information about website visits, such as page URLs, browser and device information, and interactions, and may use cookies. Requests to Google also include your IP address. This analytics code is not included in the extension and does not receive transcripts from it.

Learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can manage cookies through your browser and use Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

If you email us, we receive your email address and the information you choose to include so we can respond. Please avoid sending transcript content or other personal information that is not needed for your question.
